Peter and the Wolf

Lewisville Lake Symphony's Family Popcorn Concert, Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf,” will be presented Sunday, March 1, 3 p.m., at Frederick P. Herring Recreation Center, 191 Civic Circle.

The concert features Chip Waggoner from Fox 4 as the narrator, telling a tale so curious that it takes members of the symphony and dancers from LakeCities Ballet Theatre to help him explain what happens when young Peter and his friends venture into the forest near his home.

Pre-kindergarten through elementary-aged youngsters greatly enjoy hearing Peter’s adventure while learning a few things about music along the way. The kids get to sprawl on the gym mats right in front of the action. Parents and grandparents can watch from the nearby chairs and bleachers.

Symphony volunteers operate an Instrument Petting Zoo after the concert, where the kids can try out real orchestral instruments. There also is a workshop where they can make instruments of their own.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for a family, and can be purchased at the door or online at For information, call 972.874.9087.

Lewisville Lake Symphony is one of eight local groups receiving funding from a City of Lewisville grant program designed to foster cultural and fine arts in the community. Lewisville Lake Symphony has been recognized by the Texas Senate as one of the most respected regional orchestras in Texas.
