Art Workshop: Design and Composition of Landscape Paintings
Saturday, April 20, 1-4 p.m.
In this workshop, participants will apply design principles to compose landscape paintings using shape, value, and color in a watercolor medium, with a focus on design
• Explore approaches for dividing the picture space
• Represent objects in to interesting shapes
• Assign values
• Placement of these shapes to compose a picture
• Paint from photographs
The workshop incorporates hands-on activities using paper and watercolor. The instructor will be working alongside participants as well as demonstrating these techniques. Fun for all ages. No prior expertise is needed.
The workshop is free to attend, but due to class size limitations, participants are required to register through Eventbrite.
Murthy Mantha is a longstanding member of the Visual Arts League and held membership in many local and other art associations. He was a past president of the IBM Club Art Club, Poughkeepsie, NY. He learned intricacies of art from various teachers in India and through self-study of masters works. He paints mainly in water colors, preparing for them with pen and ink drawings from life and his photographs. His artistic inquiry is division of pictorial space and arrangement of light. He loves to paint architectural themes, landscapes, and illustrations. Some of his favorite artists include Tieopolo, Rembrandt, Cezanne, Frank Webb, and recently, Paul Klee. He lives and paints from his studio at home in Flower Mound.
To reach MCL Grand from Interstate 35E, take exit 452 and proceed east on Main Street to Charles Street. MCL Grand will be on the left. Free public parking is available along Main and Church streets, or at Lewisville City Hall across Church Street from the center.
