Lewisville, Texas 75057
- Introduction: The mobile replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial (The Wall) in Washington, D.C., will be on display 24 hours a day.
Follow the event on Facebook for news and current information.
The traveling exhibit honors the more than 3 million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War and it bears the names of the more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.
The Wall That Heals exhibit will be open to the public 24 hours a day and will be accompanied by the Mobile Education Center. Lewisville is one of three Texas tour stops in 2019 for The Wall That Heals, but it is the only North Texas tour stop. The exhibit will be in place starting on Thursday, May 2 - Sunday, May 5 at 3 p.m. just west of the Bob Wiseman Soccer Complex at Lewisville Lake Park.
The three-quarter scale Wall replica is made up of 140 numbered panels and stands 375 feet long and 7.5 feet tall. Like the original Memorial, The Wall That Heals is erected in a chevron-shape and visitors can do name rubbings of individual service member’s names on The Wall.
During the exhibit 750 ceramic poppies will be placed at the site as part of the Valor and Sacrifice Veterans Poppy Project with Jen Rose. The red poppy originated after World War I as a universal symbol for veterans and has since been adopted for veterans of any war. The power of this art installation lies in the clustering of individual poppies to form a strong visual impact where installed, and the community involvement of making the poppies.
The Mobile Education Center is the 53-foot trailer that carries The Wall That Heals around the country. The exterior of the trailer features a timeline of “The War and The Wall” and provides additional information about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Additional exhibits give visitors a better understanding of the legacy of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the collection of items left at The Wall.
Veterans and active military are invited to the "Proudly Served, Proudly Serving" luncheon on Friday, April 26. Learn more and RSVP by April 19.
