The Eric Smith Trees/Roots Songwriting Challenge

July2018treesbannercroppedrev_withtextThe Eric Smith Songwriting Challenge is a free quarterly event, usually held at the Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater. On Friday, July 13, the challenge will take place outside on Wayne Ferguson Plaza stage, 150 W. Church Street.

The event is open to all songwriters — seasoned pros and/or newbies. Each challenge has a theme, and July's participants will write and perform their songs using the word/s "trees and/or roots," or following a theme based on trees and/or roots. Songwriters perform their songs a cappella or on acoustic instruments (amplified acoustic guitars are OK). We encourage solo performances, but songwriters may have an accompanist, also playing an acoustic instrument. The exception to the acoustic instrument rule is keyboard or electric bass.

There are no prizes and only two rules: Songs must be written specifically for this challenge, and must be debuted at the event.

The challenge starts at 8 p.m. and ends when all the songwriters have performed. We encourage performers to arrive at 7:45 to choose a performance slot on the provided sign up sheet.

Make an evening in Old Town Lewisville by having dinner at one of the restaurants across from Wayne Ferguson Plaza.

Songwriters — invite your family and friends to attend this special event! We also invite the public to come enjoy the evening. Bring lawn chairs and your favorite cool beverages (no glass allowed).

Public parking is available at Lewisville City Hall, 151 W. Church Street. The rain out location will be at Medical City Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles.
