Dallas World Aquarium
If you like watching the Animal Planet, you’re sure to enjoy a visit to The Dallas World Aquarium. The aquarium is home to a variety of aquatic creatures from around the globe, including piranhas, stingrays, electric eels, sharks, crocodiles and manatees. The aquarium also houses such wildlife as river otters, poison dart frogs, vampire bats, flamingos, black-footed penguins and toucans.
Saltwater exhibits encompass 85,000 gallons of saltwater. One of the highlights is a 22,000-gallon tunnel that visitors walk through for a panoramic look at marine life surrounding a coral reef. Elsewhere, the aquarium showcases the flora and fauna found in the rainforest around South America’s Orinoco River. Another exhibit recreates the natural world of South Africa, while the Mundo Maya exhibit focuses on coastal life in the Yucatan. The Mundo Maya performance troupe makes appearances on Saturdays and Sundays.
The Dallas World Aquarium is also home to several gift shops and eateries. Dining choices include the Cafe Maya Restaurant, “Eighteen-O-One” Restaurant and the Jungle Cafe. The aquarium is available to host private events, such as meetings, luncheons or formal banquets.
